January 2009 Update

Dear OGKMA Alumnus:

We are pleased to report that the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) went very well. The NRI Alumni Education Center which is built by donations from KMC alumni was dedicated on Thursday, January 8th with Mr. Jaipal Reddy, Union minister, as the chief guest. It is a beautiful auditorium with 300 seat capacity. I would like to thank each and every donor for their contribution. The auditorium was packed with faculty, guests, students and the press at the time of dedication. Nearly 30 KMC NRI alumni attended the function. The same evening there was dinner along with entertainment by the local talent from the college. That function was held in front of the main building of the college.

There were CME programs and felicitations on Friday, January 9th in our new auditorium. It was a well attended event. This was followed by gala dinner and entertainment at Podduturi Gardens. It was a beautiful venue and the function was attended by more than 500 guests.

The Education Center project is about 60% completed with a cost of $750,000. Upper two floors need completion. One floor has seven guest rooms for visiting faculty and examiners and the other floor will have three mini conference rooms with capacity for 60-70 students in each conference room.

We need additional $400,000 to complete the work out of which we need $60,000 in the next month. We plan to raise the additional funds needed to complete the project

Kakatiya Medical college, Warangal: Golden Jubilee Project

We (The NRI alumni of Kakatiya) have decided to make a gift to our college on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebration in appreciation of the fine education we received, for almost free. Drs. Gopal reddy, Lakireddy and Sreedhar Rao met separately with the principal and the faculty of KMC in Jan 2006 and asked about the needs of the college. After long deliberations, we have decided to build an education center along the lines of the one built by Gandhi Medical College.

The Golden Jubilee celebrations will take place some time in January or February, 2009 in Warangal.

The Building will have 4 floors
Ground Floor: Auditorium with 300 seats
1st floor: 7 guest rooms including 2 suites
2nd floor: 3 smaller conference rooms and electronic library
Below ground level: kitchen and dining hall.

Estimated cost 5 crore rupees ~ 1.5 million US dollars We have architectural plans for the building.

Fundraising for the project started in 2004 and is ongoing. A group of 10-15 KMC alumni participate in a telephone conference call every 2 weeks, on 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 10pm(eastern time)to discuss issues related to fundraising, construction etc. Generally 5-6 members attend it. Anyone who is interested is encouraged to attend and provide us with suggestions. Conference call phone 712-432-2323, access code 129991.

One acre land in a very nice location on the college campus is allotted for the construction. A construction committee is formed comprising alumni from USA and India. We have frequent phone contact with those involved with the project. Ground breaking ceremony took place on Jan 5th, 2007 with several alumni in attendance. It was attended by state home minister. Actual construction is expected to begin in June or July, 2007.

We need everyone's help to reach more alumni and achieve our goal of raising sufficient funds to complete the project. Please contact any of the following alumni for more information.
