1980: 'Bees Saal Ke Baad' of Osmania Alumni from the Class of 1961
mostly and some from 1959 and 1960 as well as 1962 and 1963, included some
alumni from United Kingdom met in Chicago. The meeting was organized by Dr.
Kamalesh K. Reddy at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago, followed by a picnic at Dr.
Raghuram Vollala's residence, where the idea of forming an alumni association
originated.
1981: Dr. Janardana R. Pingili organizes the first formal meeting of
OUMA in Long Island, New York. Dr. Narayan Deshmukh was elected as the first
Secretary, the only office bearer and served from 1981 to 1984.
1986: Dr. Madhu Mohan, Washington, DC, Secretary from 1987-93,
registers OUMA as a non-profit organization in the State of Maryland
(D2707263). OUMA qualifies as a tax exempt organization under 501(C) (3). Dr.
Madhu Mohan helped recruit a number of alumni and the Executive Committee of
1992 under Dr. Pushpamala Reddy, published the first edition of the OUMA
Directory.
2006: The "Andhra Pradesh University of Health Sciences" was
established by the Act.No. 6 of the Andhra Pradesh legislature and was
inaugurated on 9-4-1986. After the death of its founder Sri N.T. Rama Rao the
University was named after him as NTR University of Health Sciences, Andhra
Pradesh with effect from 2.2.98 vide Act No.4 of 1998. Ever since its
formation, the new University has been issuing degrees to the graduates of all
three alumni medical colleges (Osmania, Gandhi, Kakatiya). Due to these
changes, under the leadership of Dr. Santosh Cheela (President in office) a
decision has been taken by the executive committee to change the association's
name to "Osmania Gandhi Kakatiya Medical Alumni Association of America, OGKMA".
This change was expected to avoid any confusion about the University that
represents the medical colleges which in turn helps improve the participation
of the newer medical graduates".
Mission
To bring together graduates of Osmania University - Osmania, Gandhi,
and Kakatiya medical colleges and to function as a venue for charitable,
educational and cultural activities that allow members to share common ideas
and discuss concerns.
Objectives

To provide educational activities for Osmania medical alumni in the USA and in
India.

To develop a network of Osmania medical alumni to provide assistance to young
Osmania medical graduates with residency / fellowships, research opportunities
and job/practice positions.

To provide charitable work for health care of the needy in India and the USA

To help medical schools and hospitals associated with Osmania to improve
research, libraries, technologies and patient care.

To provide support and assistance for the problems faced by Osmania medical
alumni by working with AAPI and organized medicine.
